Code Refactoring

[edit]

I was speaking from personal experience. I don't have a citation to offer, though this was discussed a lot on the old Extreme Programming YahooGroup, which now no longer exists.

Hello! I am not sure what you are referring to, but it sounds like I may have removed information you added to an article without a source. Personal experience and forum posts aren’t reliable sources for wikipedia, and all info needs to be verifiable by reliable sources. -- NotCharizard 🗨 03:26, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for letting me know about the citations I will be sure to correct what is needed and resubmit :). MikeBooze (talk) 00:27, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IP Block

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Notcharizard (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I was told today that my IP address has been blocked when I tried to edit an article, I do not know why and did not have any message here on my account, the pop-up just said "long term abuse". I had a look at constributions/my IP and it was a similar IP to mine that was blocked, rather than the exact same (only the first half was the same), so I am assuming I am "collateral damage". I can give exact IPs if needed. -- NotCharizard 🗨 07:16, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Yes, we need to know the IP address involved. If you don't want to post it publicly, you may use WP:UTRS to provide it privately. You may also wish to explain why you might be on the IP address of a long-term abuser(LTA). 331dot (talk) 08:08, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Okay, thank you! I will apply through the ticket system. I am sorry for mistakes, I don't know how any of this works and it's confusing and a shock!

have you seen the new heartbreak high?

its good Anthony2106 (talk) 13:50, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Anthony2106 I haven't, I've heard pretty good things about the representation in it, but I mostly only watch cartoons and comedies. This is like the fourth time it's been rec'd to me though, so might be worth it. I thanked you because I was happy you linked to the special interests I created :D -- NotCharizard 🗨 13:56, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well i like the representation, very good. also i might link to your page in season 2. but what do you think about me renaming it? i left a thingy on the talk page to rename it Anthony2106 (talk) 14:04, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't read it the first time, I just got a notification that you'd linked to an article I created. I don't really want to read the article incase I decide to watch the show I'd like to avoid spoilers. -- NotCharizard 🗨 15:15, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All Star Game

[edit]

Your recent edit to 2024 NBA All-Star Game seemed less than neutral to me: There was WIDESPREAD CONDEMNATION, thus it NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED within the Wikipedia page so as to provide proper perspective, relevance and historical context.

Put those sources in the article then?? Don't show them to me? You wrote, completely unsourced "Although there were allegations of not following the spirit of the game... and instead making a mockery of the sport". Me removing that was not related to any bias I have, I don't follow NBA at all. -- NotCharizard 🗨 14:47, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Heera Mandi

[edit]

You reverted the article while all I did was divided the article more systematically amoung empires without adding much. Earthistan (talk) 07:09, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Earthistan Sorry, I thought you'd added the unsourced stuff. Feel free to undo my undo! -- NotCharizard 🗨 07:12, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

[edit]

I want to add this userbox, but it doesn't say anywhere what I type out to add it. I think I can use the name of the page as a template but I'm not too sure. I thought maybe you would know since you have it on your page. Tonkarooson (talk) *new editor* 22:50, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tonkarooson Yep, you just use the template format! So you just need to put the name of the page (in this case, “User:UBX/Autistic” in between double curly brackets, so like this; {{User:UBX/Autistic}}. The one I have on my profile is actually a different one I made myself, which for some reason a person just copied the code from into that other user box which before looked very different, I don’t know why lol. -- NotCharizard 🗨 06:38, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know you can use the name of the page. Thanks. The link to the info box I have there is the wrong one; the link wasn't clickable through the app (you can look in the revision history).
I tried to find the one I wanted but couldn't find it, so I'll use yours. It's also smaller which works for how I want to add it. Tonkarooson (talk) *new editor* 01:53, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My edit on an IP spammer's talk page

[edit]

Hello, re your revert of my edit at User talk:2.185.175.58: I was adding a tracking link so a link search could determine which users had added that link, to provide evidence for potentially adding it to the spam blacklist, as described at the WikiProject Spam page. In this case I checked the link activity, found cross-wiki spamming, and got the link added to the global spam blacklist instead. I generally follow the guidelines about editing others' comments to the letter, except in a case like this. I rolled back your edit, just because I can ... a manual revert wouldn't have worked because of the blacklist. Graham87 (talk) 02:32, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Graham87 Please do not edit my comments. Next time please add that information in your own comment as a reply, as I feel uncomfortable with someone making it seem like I wrote something I did not, even if it’s not a problematic edit. -- NotCharizard 🗨 03:04, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense ... I'll try to take this request into account, but this sort of situation doesn't happen very often. I'd create a new comment in *every* *single* case except one like this. Adding a comment makes things potentially more obvious to the spammer. Maybe security through obscurity isn't the best, but it's all we have. Graham87 (talk) 06:18, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pleas try to remember to add a tracking link with spam warnings. That'd be easier all round. Graham87 (talk) 06:24, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are there specific rules for author pages?

[edit]

Can you tell me, if there a specific rules for the content of an authors page? You seem to have desided to remove a lot of things from the author page of the Faroese author Rakel Helmsdal, even thougt a lot of authors have the same sort of material on their page, see f.i. Joe Nesbø. Skrivarin (talk) 12:34, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Skrivarin Nope, it's not an author specific thing! The manual of style for bibliographies says to "avoid indiscriminate criteria – some of the most popular challenges to bibliographies or lists of works are based on the Wikipedia policies Wikipedia is not a directory and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information." and the Lists Within Articles guidelines says, all items in a list must be sourced, which the ones I removed were not. "Other pages do this" is not relevant. -- NotCharizard 🗨 05:02, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
