mondeghili again

Hallo Theleekycauldron,

would it be possible to set the image license flag on the DYK template of Mondeghili to green? I just noticed that on Commons the author's License Mail has arrived. Thanks! Alex2006 (talk) 05:31, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Alex2006! Copyright tagging isn't quite my area of expertise, so I'm probably not the person to ask about this. Thanks for asking, though—you might want to ask User talk:Cwmhiraeth or WT:DYK. Good luck, and sorry I couldn't be of more use! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 06:45, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
Hallo Theleekycauldron, I didn't mean the copyright Tag, but the Flag that you put here under "Image eligibility:". It is always red, although now the image is freely licensed, and the Article has been promoted with image. I will ask Cwmhiraeth. Cheers, Alex2006 (talk) 06:52, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
ah, I see what you mean. I can't modify the nomination page for that reason, since it's already closed, but your hook is already in the prep sets—there's no need to worry, your hook is schedule to display on the main page for all of October 10, UTC. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 07:00, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
OK, than I won't contact Cwmhiraeth. :-) Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 07:09, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Questenberg

I debated with myself whether to bother you about Template:Did you know nominations/Johann Adam von Questenberg, and here I am. I was VERY busy (RL) for the last days, so didn't check every edit. When Questenberg was promoted, and you didn't add the usual "without image" clause, I was sure you took the image which is such a rare thing to have: an artist's portrait of the subject that transports us to the period without any words. Actually, I mentioned the otherwise less important "lute" only because of the image. If this hook and without image, we should at least add a year, because who would know this didn't happen in the 20th century? But perhaps better a different hook (correspondence with Bach, commissioning operas ...) Or simply take the image? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:44, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Hi! My apologies for the mix-ups; I was quite tired when I was building the previous prep set. I agree with you, Questenberg (who has quite the classy lute) would be a good image hook, and I'd much rather do that than have to add more qualifiers on the hook. Let's see if it isn't too late to pull strings; thanks for bringing this up! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 08:00, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
p.s. feel free to bother me whenever; it does get quite dull assembling prep sets sometimes
October songs
Thank you, that's great, and when I looked last, even the image slot in the same prep was free. He could go also anytime later, nothing date-specific. I am sad that what you called "perennial gang" was broken, and don't know what to do. I don't know admin language. - Yesterday's concert was great! (click on songs for moar) Especially after no concert singing in choir for exactly two years, - that group perennially performs on 3 October. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:36, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
oh my, i've just seen what happened. i'm so sorry, gerda, that must be really difficult—you must have worked with him here for a long time. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 09:16, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
yes, from 2012 when he translated all Bach cantatas to French, good collaboration always, and the whole AN thread was so counterproductive. Drive a man crazy, and then block him for being crazy, - I better stop ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:39, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
i definitely hear you—that doesn't seem fair. i wouldn't want to see that AN thread either, that looks nightmarish. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:30, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I told LouisAlain to work in the German Wikipedia, and he followed. - Yes in theory, every bit should be sourced inline by some reliable external source. Most German articles don't comply with that but have their book sources. Now what's better: translate that, or leave our readers with an interlanguage link - to a place where they likely will not detect the sources at all? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
for sure, it doesn't seem accessible to ask readers to go to the german wiki, where they'll probably end up using machine translation anyway. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 21:45, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
was there a concert in 2020, or was it cancelled? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 09:18, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
no concert (look for cancelled here), not even a performance in a church service (for me), over months not even congregational singing at church --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:39, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: oh, that's a bummer. I've always been jealous of congregations with instruments or good voices; the singing acumen at the Orthodox Jewish synagogue I grew up with is roughly equivalent to a chorus of ill raccoons, and we never used instruments since they're prohibited on the sabbath. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:30, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
returning from rehearsal: I understand - on Mondays I sing with a different choir, and our conductor there split the group in three, to oblige to distance regulations, - great music to be discovered! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: i'm glad you're back in person, at least! I never did choir, but i'm quite excited about my vocals course. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 21:45, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I uploaded new pics (click on songs), including "our" concert (after exactly two years without) and a cow sunset --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:06, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: DYK #1700 which you kindly reviewed, and I uploaded more images, mostly blue and green, for hope. I mentioned you below the credit on my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:08, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: My words aged rather poorly, it seems—i wish they were true too. The images are quite lovely, though, i quite like the trees on hike from Ehrenbach to Oberauroff. Congrats on 1700! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 15:59, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
any favourites? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 15:59, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
look, moar: Today, mostly black&white, and standing upright as Psalm 15 says, - can you perhaps help with Mordechai Geldman? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: that's an awesome sculpture, holy crap! I'd love to help with Geldman's article, although I must warn you my hebrew is not... excellent. I'll do my best, what can I help you with? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 21:56, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
You can see if you find sources for the books, and if you find something mentioned in some Hebrew articles (one in the external links) which supports facts, or would add something new. I found the article practically as it was, and it could appear on the Main page in the Recent deaths corner if fully sourced and a bit longer. My Hebrew is zero, so yours is much better ;) - I need sleep now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:01, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
ps: prep 3 has two hooks by me (6 and 8), and one per day is enough for me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:20, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
Mordechai arrived on the Main page! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:59, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
That's awesome, gerda! sorry I couldn't help out with it, I got a little lost. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 07:33, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
No problem, I had other things I didn't get to yesterday, - our time is limited. In case there's something in Hebrew that isn't mentioned yet, today would be the perfect day to add when people are looking. Interest diminishes the second day, and often there is no second day. I am almost there to nominate Evelyn Richter, to be followed by Luis de Pablo. Little time for LouisAlain's opulent creation which hopefully can wait, - the recent deaths can't wait. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:52, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", broken by one of us banned), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes, - updated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:16, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Two more today, again one by the gang, and more colour! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:48, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Today: a scandal, thanks for the promotion! More fall colours, including a short sermon. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:07, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: aaaa!—fall colours are my favourite. and the perennial gang joke really caught on, i see. i really wasn't expecting that. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 17:54, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
The gang meets in German, DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:12, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
I didn't, in fact theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 01:30, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
But now ;) - today: memories in friendship --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:22, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I can't express how much I admire you dedicating a scandal to LouisAlain—that is an interesting move. Rest in peace to Eberhard Panitz, too—i didn't realize that was so recent theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 16:48, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
I can't express how much I admire the work of Jerome Kohl, - look for my name on his talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:30, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
As DYK works, a peaceful meditative image attracted only a quarter of the views of the scandalous one. - Please, change the Hans Haselböck hook in prep once more. The (amazing) 65 years began on 4 November 1949, but they ended 65 years later which is 2014, no "today". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:04, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: welcome to the internet, i suppose. For the Hans Haselböck hook, i corrected it to 72 years ago—does that work for you? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 07:09, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, no, and I think I said so. We need to say that he held that same position for 65 years, which is amazing, and I think the best way was the approved hook. Some readers will see it on a different date. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:29, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: ah, gotcha. should be done, then theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 07:32, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Special occasion hook

Theleekycauldron, I see that you recently filled the Prep 4 set, which is due to run on October 14, the same day as a special occasion hook that is waiting for promotion. I thought you might want to decide which hook ought to run in the lead position. One thing to think about is that after a dearth of hooks featuring the image of a person, we now have two men in paintings in a row. Even if you don't want to give the special occasion hook a lead spot, you might want to swap the October 14 lead image with an earlier prep set.

Thanks for all the work you're doing keeping DYK going. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:04, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, BlueMoonset! Damn, and I was keeping a close eye on that hook right up until a few days ago. I promoted it to P4 without the image, and I'm going to figure out whether to space out the two painting images. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 05:29, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Could I beg a boon?

I've suggested DYK at Template:Did you know nominations/2021–22 UConn Huskies women's basketball team but am not satisfied with the hook, which isn't punchy enough. Seeing as you are the high potentate of Punchy Hook, would you mind looking my page over and seeing if there's something about the coaches which makes a sexier hook? I'd love a hook which glorifies CD more and Auriemma less. BusterD (talk) 17:30, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

@BusterD: legitimately made my day with this request, thanks! I'll leave some notes on the talk page. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 17:41, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
Your ALT0b is exactly what I was looking for. You untangled it. I knew a fresh set of eyes was what I needed. It was right in front of me and I was looking too hard to see it. Thanks so much! BusterD (talk) 00:28, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD: happy to help! Sometimes a fresh set of eyes is all it takes :). theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 04:52, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
Would you be interested in helping me compile a bit on an admin mentoring program? I'd like to get one or two others to help me put a well put together proposal for formal training curriculum on a apprentice/master model. Interested? It would likely be a very short term activity. BusterD (talk) 18:52, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD: I would love to! How can I help? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 18:58, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Have you been following Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2021 review/Brainstorming? If no, start reading. If yes, I want to accumulate as much info as I can about what training academies are already out there. My proposals are at the end (school, mentoring/sponsorship). John Cline has offered to help us draft, but I want to make a list. BusterD (talk) 19:04, 21 October 2021 (UTC) Frankly, I'm planning to spend the evening watching Dune, but I'll put in whatever time I need this weekend. BusterD (talk) 19:10, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD: I've seen the page before, but I'll really get into now. You want me to find already existing admin training programs? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:19, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
This diff will help you find what I'm discussing. Let's put what we find on User:BusterD/sandbox. BusterD (talk) 19:24, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

About My DYK Nomination

Hello, and thank you for commenting about my Beach Boys quote. Praise the Lord God Brian Wilson and death to the Brotherhood of Steel.
Anyway, let us get to the main issue at hand here: my DYK nomination for Tourism in Estonia. I've written a brand new alt hook for the DYK nomination in this talk message, which is as follows,

  • ... that after the opening of a ferry service from Helsinki to Tallinn in 1968, so-called "vodka tourists" from Finland travelled to Estonia to get cheaper alcohol?

Here's a little source to match: Calvert Journal
And I hope this works. If it doesn't, you can always reply here, or send me a message in my talk.
(Please excuse me for all of the Brian Wilson stuff, I am a 60s music buff)
Cheers, TootsieRollsAddict (talk) 01:31, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi there, User:TootsieRollsAddict! Praise Brian Wilson indeed, I love 60s music too! Although I'm a little more Creedence Clearwater Revival and Simon & Garfunkel than I am Beach Boys. Getting down to business, we should probably have this discussion on the nomination page (I'm not reviewing your nomination, Narutolovehinata5 is). I'm going to finish out my reply to this on the nom page, and I'll copy your hook there too. Thanks for reaching out! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 01:37, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

George Pitcher DYK

Hi! Can you take a look at my DYK nomination for George Pitcher (philosopher)? I’m not sure how to proceed as I have never had an issue with a nomination before. Thank you, Thriley (talk) 03:28, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

@Thriley: hi! It looks like your reviewer, David Eppstein, is asking you to reword some sentences that could be interpreted as copyvio. From my point of view, that seems to be a fair call. I'd continue checking the Earwig, and continue to make changes until you're sure that you've addressed all of his concerns. Don't get discouraged—it seems to be a small problem, and you're almost there! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 03:59, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, theleekycauldron ! Maybe it's because many people read Wikipedia while having a snack... :-) You have to admit that the picture is really yummy! This encourages me to write more articles about gastronomy. Cheers, Alex2006 (talk) 06:23, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Prep moves

Theleekycauldron, I deliberately moved the 3 Times Square hook from Prep 7 to Prep 1 for two reasons. The first is that the final two hooks in Prep 7 both were criticisms of architectural structures. That's enough to justify moving one from the set, since two similar hooks like that shouldn't be in the same set. The reason why 3 Times Square was moved is because Prep 6, the set immediately before, had a hook about Times Square buildings, and running Times Square building hooks in successive sets (or even successive days, now that we're back to two sets per day) is not a good idea. Indeed, my plan was to move 3 Times Square to Prep 2 or 3 from Prep 1 after those preps are promoted to queues and emptied out. So just to be aware: 3 Times Square will be moving out of Prep 7 again. Please don't move it back. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:41, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Thought the other infrastructure hook was the nebraska highway. but thanks for that. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:42, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Top New Questions: when will my DYK nomination appear at the main page?

Salutations, theleekycauldron! Now, I have a question: how long will it take for my DYK to appear on the main page? I am not begging, just asking. It was my first-ever proper DYK nomination (I made one on my old account shortly after I abandoned it), so I have quite a bit of questions.
Fun fact: I like CCR too: particularly Fortunate Son and Bad Moon Rising. I hope you can answer my question, and ta-ta! TootsieRollsAddict (talk to me pls I am lonely) 07:14, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Greetings, TootsieRollsAddict! You can check the list of queued nominations by going to WP:DYKQ and scrolling down to see where your hook is in the queues! At DYK, hooks are promoted to the "prep sets", where they're workshopped and swapped around, and then promoted to "queues", where only the admins can edit the set in preparation for the main page. In this case, your hook is in Queue 3, which means that it'll be on the main page on October 24, from 0:00 to 12:00 UTC time. Glad to see a fellow CCR fan! (we're up to two sets a day, and it's causing some strain, so the bad moon hath already risen at DYK. Hopefully it sets soon.) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 07:20, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Modified hooks

I guess you have discretion(?), but I'd prefer adding "Singaporean" to "activist" just to provide some context before people even click on the link. If you thought the hook needed modifying, perhaps you could have mentioned that before promoting too? But I'm cool either way, just thought I'd give my two cents. Cheers! Kingoflettuce (talk) 04:44, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

@Kingoflettuce: no issue there! I added that in. Also, if I want to modify the hook pre-promotion, I have to raise a flag on the nompage, then it has to get approved, and then someone else has to promote it (and there aren't really any other full-time prep set promoters around at the moment). More efficient to modify it in the preps. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 04:53, 22 October 2021 (UTC) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 04:53, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

@Theleekycauldron. Suggest you walk carefully here. You are liable to get lots of eyes on this AFD. Stand by, and possibly improve, your work. Everybody seems to like it. Wikipedians are suckers for fun stories written about ourselves. You might just make yourself look competent in full view of the community. BusterD (talk) 19:16, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD re: your edit summary, your advice is always welcome. I think that's the right call, too; I'll add some of the content from new sources into the article, let the work speak for itself, and this might just work out after all. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:34, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Go ahead and create a section in the merge target and give a summary of your work. Given the trajectory of the AFD discussion, nobody's going to take that as a surrender, just more competence. BusterD (talk) 19:37, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
I was an active editor during the dash edits wars of 2012. Things get lots crazier than this. Good instincts, friend. BusterD (talk) 19:39, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD: The dash edits wars? oh god, please tell me there wasn't a spat over whether to use the en or em dash... theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:45, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
OK, if you want I can tell you that there wasn't a spat over whether to use the en or em dash. But I'd be lying. Might have been an Arbcom case as well, but not sure -- maybe I'm thinking of infoboxes. It all runs together. Lights ... dimming. Room ... spinning ... EEng 20:02, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
A vast RFC which lasted months and involved hundreds of users. I can't find it right now but somebody has the location memorized I'm sure. BusterD (talk) 20:00, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
... oh my god. that's nightmarish. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 20:09, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD: will do—but I also wouldn't call the AfD just yet, it's only two hours old. I'm interested to see if saner heads start to bring it back to WP:PERSISTENCE. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 19:44, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Since I've got your attention, I want to point out Wikipedia administrators. It's a weak and outdated article (that few seem to love) about a really essential meta-subject. Might not be in your interest area. Somebody gets THIS page to GA, possibly puts it on DYK, they would be local heroes. Vastly improve the pedia. Want to partner on this? BusterD (talk) 19:46, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@BusterD: I'd be happy to give that a shot! The article could definitely use improvement. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 20:10, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
I'm already watching the space, you don't need to ping me every time. Let's consider it once we're clear of this admin coaching thing. We'd already be reading the historical material. BusterD (talk) 20:15, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
fair enough—i should hopefully be getting to the admin coaching thing by today or tomorrow. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 20:19, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
sorry folks, but the show must go on. busterd (talk) 21:04, 24 October 2021
Keep quiet and let the conversation run its full seven days and you're a legend, bud. BusterD (talk) 01:42, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
On advice of counsel, then, I plead the third. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 01:46, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
I didn't mean stay mum; I meant don't feel tempted to argue. Your case is in pagespace. Take pleasure in the frolic. BusterD (talk) 01:55, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
yeah, i gotcha theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 02:13, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Leek, regardless of how I feel the consensus was assessed, I'm generally very impressed with how you handled yourself here and have no intention of pushing the matter any further. I wish you all the best and look forward to interacting with you in the future. Eddie891 Talk Work 19:07, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
I appreciate your grace as well, and thank you for bringing this to attention—it was definitely worth the debate! I hope to work with you soon, too :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 20:17, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
