Some food will be provided. However, you can volunteer to bring potluck food, supplies and recreations as you feel inspired! Among other activities, we will have elements of an informal WikiSeder (in the tradition of non-traditional Passover Seders), a secular celebration of wiki wisdom and free culture — feel free to bring all variety of breads (Passover is technically over by the weekend), Easter eggs, anything fun from different cultural traditions!

Our event will be by the barbecue/picnic area of northwestern Fort Greene Park, immediately to the left of the grand staircase leading up to the big column of the Prison Ship Martyrs' Monument.

All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition, to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if appropriate.

The four wiki-questions

[edit]

Why is this website different from all other websites?

  • On other websites, users must create accounts. Why on this website do we allow people to edit without creating an account?
  • On other websites, anything goes. Why on this web site do we require reliable, secondary, independent sources with significant coverage?
  • On other websites, users are allowed to post random memes and cat videos they find on the internet. Why on this website do we insist that all material be CC BY-SA 3.0?
  • On other websites, if you're not the customer, you're the product. Why on this website are you neither?

To provide some context for the above, part of a traditional seder is for the youngest child at the table to ask four questions about various aspects of the proceedings. The questions are asked in the above style, but as with many things in the Jewish tradition, if you ask five people, you'll get at least 10 different versions of the details. Since we're doing a wiki-seder, I came up with a variation appropriate to that event. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:18, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Potluck

[edit]

Sign up here with any foods (seasonal, cultural, symbolic or otherwise) and other fun materials you can bring for the potluck.

  • Going to bring "Wiki Dixit", borrowed from the Brooklyn Public Library, and a favorite from international wikiconferences. Maybe it can give some inspiration for game-making at the Hackathon in May.--Pharos (talk) 15:38, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
