Unstressed (though strong)

[edit]

According to the Longman Pronunciation Dictionary, "This suffix is unstressed (though strong) in Received Pronunciation and General American, but sometimes stressed in other varieties".

Neologisms

[edit]

Neologisms in -ize are generally to be discouraged, for they are usually ungainly and often superfluous. Hence we have no use for artificialize, audiblize, cubiclize, fenderize (= to fix a dented fender), funeralize, ghettoize, Mirandize, nakedize, obituarize, ✳operationalize, prioritize. --Backinstadiums (talk) 16:56, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
