5609th meeting - Threats to international peace and security cause by terrorist acts
 

Decides to review the measures imposed by paragraph 4 (b) of resolution 1267 (1999), paragraph 8 (c) of resolution 1333 (2000) and paragraphs 1 and 2 of resolution 1390 (2002) with a view to their further strengthening in 18 months; provides cover sheet for listing submissions, extends consideration period for exemption requests under resolution 1452 (2002), and extends the mandate of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team for a further period of 18 months (paras 1, 7, 15, 32 & 33).

Takes note with interest of the best practices and methods contained in the report of the Informal Working Group on General Issues of sanctions (S/2006/997) and requests its subsidiary bodies to take note as well.

Establishes a focal point within the Secretariat (Security Council Subsidiary Organs Branch), to receive de-listing requests and directs the relevant sanctions committees to revise their guidelines accordingly (paras 1 & 2)
 

Unanimous adoption of document S/2006/616 resulting in resolution 1699 (2006)

Requests the Secretary-General to take the necessary steps to increase cooperation between the United Nations and Interpol in order to provide the Committees and Member States with better tools (paras 1 & 2)
 

Unanimous adoption of document S/2005/495 resulting in resolution 1617 (2005)

Decides to review the measures imposed by paragraph 4 (b) of resolution 1267 (1999), paragraph 8 (c) of resolution 1333 (2000) and paragraphs 1 and 2 of resolution 1390 (2002) with a view to their further strengthening in 17 months; provides definition of “associated with”, calls for submission of checklist, and requests the Secretary-General to extend the mandate of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team for 17 months (paras 1, 2, 10, 19, 20 & 21)

Decides to further improve the implementation of the measures imposed by paragraph 4 (b) of resolution 1267 (1999), paragraph 8 (c) of resolution 1333 (2000) and paragraphs 1 and 2 of resolution 1390 (2002) in 18 months, strengthens the mandate of the 1267 Committee and requests the Secretary-General to appoint an Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team for 18 months (paras 1, 3, 6 & 7).
