Chaos erupts at Team India’s T20 World cup victory parade in Mumbai as overcrowding leaves many injured

The T20 World cup is over but the victory celebration isn’t for India. The thrilling clash between the two unbeaten sides, South Africa and the team in blue, held on Saturday, June 29, culminated with India claiming their second T20 World Cup title after 17 years. To mark the victory, a special parade was organized at Mumbai’s Marine Drive on Thursday, July 4, but the event left multiple injured, confirms Mumbai Police.

An eyewitness identified as Rishab Mahesh Yadav revealed he lost control of his footing as lakhs gathered at the site while authorities were disorganized. Yadav said he lost consciousness after falling and was taken to a nearby hospital. “The crowd was more than necessary. There was mismanagement. The police were also not alert," he spoke of the experience to ANI.

Another bystander, Ravi Solanki, was held back in the area while commuting home from work. According to him, the overcrowding wasn’t managed well by Mumbai police. “The crowd kept growing, and the police were not managing the situation. People began shouting, and some fell on each other. It was very disorganized with no one to control the crowd. This occurred between 8:15-8:45 pm," he told ANI.

Multiple reports indicate over 3,00,000 fans arrived at Mumbai Drive and about 40,000 visited Wankhede stadium, where players of team India accumulated to receive their winning prize. It is suggested over 5000 police personnel were commissioned to control the crowd but the situation went out of control.

IND vs SA was a match that lived up to its expectations with intense drama building until the last over. Finally, India beat SA by seven runs at the Kensington Oval by putting up 176-7 on the board and restricting their opponent to 169-8.
