HEAT RELIEF RESOURCES FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 29

On Saturday, June 29, all New Orleans Public Library locations will be open as usual from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be used as a cooling center.

SAFETY TIPS

Extreme heat can be dangerous. Residents are urged to use the following tips to stay safe:

  • Stay inside with air conditioning during the hottest parts of the day

  • If you need to go outside, do so early in the morning or late in the evening

  • Wear light, loose clothing

  • Avoid too much sun

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty

  • Check on neighbors, especially children, the elderly, and those with health problems especially during power outages

  • Never leave children or pets in a car. Temperatures inside can quickly become life-threatening even if the windows are cracked. Call 9-1-1 if you see a child or animal left alone in a vehicle.
