Perry and Sandy Sook Academic Center:

The Perry and Sandy Sook Academic Center, located on the north side of Peden Stadium, provides dedicated study and instructional support for more than 425 student athletes and group project collaboration with student peers across campus.

The facility, whose total project budget of approximately $7 million was funded entirely by Ohio athletics and included a generous lead gift commitment of $2.25 million from Ohio alumni Perry and Sandy Sook, provides a classroom, computer lab, tutor rooms, offices and offices for Academic and Compliance staff members. The Sook Center also enabled Ohio University to provide much-needed ADA restrooms to the Peden Stadium complex.

The construction of the Sook Center began in August 2017 and was completed in late August 2018. The new academic center has doubled the size of the former study space, which was located on the fourth floor of Peden Stadium. On Ohio game days, the academic center transforms into a hospitality area for donors and fans.

Graduate and practicum students monitor the Sook Academic Center Sunday through Thursday evenings during evening study hall hours.

At the beginning of the student-athletes second semester of enrollment at Ohio University, there will be a set number of study hall hours required of all student-athletes based upon their cumulative GPA.  Student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or better will not be required to attend study hall. Required study hall hours for incoming freshmen and transfers in their first semester will be based upon a sliding scale. The student-athlete's core GPA from high school/college along with his/her ACT/SAT test score will be reviewed to determine the number of hours the student will be required to attend each week. New student-athletes will be placed in either 10, 8, 6 or 4 hours of study hall depending on their core GPA and ACT/SAT scores.

  • Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA below 2.19 = 10 hours per week
  • Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA between 2.20-2.39  = 8 hours per week
  • Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA between 2.40-2.59  = 6 hours per week
  • Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA between 2.60 - 3.00 = 4 hours per week (select student-athletes)
