  1. The city's annual Arts and Craft Fair will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road. The community event features "more than 150 vendors who sell a variety of original artwork, jewelry, photography, glass and iron work, clothing and much more." If you are interested in becoming a vendor, you should submit your application prior to Friday, Oct. 27! (City of Scottsdale)
  2. Scottsdale Sister Cities Association provided several updates on its events and initiatives, which align with their mission to "promote the city as an ambassador of international friendship and goodwill... through student, educational, cultural and economic development exchanges and advancement of long-term international partnerships." SSCA will host the 15th Annual Student Leadership Conference on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Scottsdale Community College, and you can register here. Alamos Student Exchange applications are due by Monday, Sept. 4, and you can contact Bob Rink at [email protected] for more information. Additionally, congrats to Diana Lopez, who is a Desert Mountain High School student and the winner of the "Young Artist - Classic Artist Category - Food Security in My Community."   3. ASM America Inc., the "Phoenix-based U.S. arm of an international semiconductor equipment supplier," purchased almost 24 acres of land near the Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road. The land was purchased for over $33 million. (Free: NewsBreak, Subscription: Phoenix Business Journal)
  4. Glomensio LLC, a Scottsdale-based startup company, is working on a "smart home device that can detect a 911 call and trigger exterior house numbers to flash red and blue to ensure emergency services personnel can find the house easily." Since four ASU graduates created "Firefly" last year, it has been installed in two countries and eight states. You can find more information about the product here.
