  1. Are you dreaming of winter weather? Cool off at "Beat the Heat" this Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on The Quad at Scottsdale Quarter. The free event will feature "10 tons of snow, cool treats, balloon twisters, and music." There will also be yard games, free treats from Purple and Grimaldi's, and treats for sale from ICED Gourmet Shave Ice and JoJo's Shake Bar. Consider arriving at the start of the event, as the first 500 people will receive giveaway items! (Scottsdale Quarter)
  2. Speaking of dreaming of winter weather, save the dates for the Scottsdazzle Holiday Extravaganza! The annual event will kick off at the Scottsdale Waterfront with a "Sing-Along & Tree Lighting Ceremony" on Nov. 25. Children will be able to "Meet Santa at the Market" on Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, 9, and 16 at the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market. The "Scottsdazzle Stroll" will also take place on Dec. 2, 9, and 16, during which guests can enjoy the holiday lights and dΓ©cor while listening to musical entertainment. There will be several other festivities throughout the month of December, so be sure to keep an eye on the Scottsdazzle website for 2023 details! (KTAR.com)
  3. The Independence Hotel, which "has a contract to provide 10 rooms to the city for homeless people" via the city funds accepted from the Arizona Department of Housing, is requesting permission for renovations to become a "luxury boutique hotel." The managing partner of Oasis 33, the company that owns the property, said that the hotel "plans to honor its contract with the city" through September of next year and does not plan to start renovations "until baseball season is over." The request, which is on today's city council agenda, is "to allow for a new three-story hotel building, one story gym/cafΓ©, site improvements, and renovations and expansions to existing hotel buildings" at 7330 N. Pima Road. (East Valley Tribune)
