  1. Registration is now open for Fall 2023 Scottsdale Parks and Recreation classes! Browse classes to register online or check out the Fall 2023 edition of "Scottsdale Life" to see all offerings available, including parks and recreation activities, library programs, senior center services and resources, human services and resources, and McDowell Sonoran Preserve information. Some unique events of note include: "Dunkin' for Pumpkins" at McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center on Oct. 22 from 1 to 5:30 p.m.; "38th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair" at 1700 N. Granite Reef Road on Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Ultimate Family Play Date & Concert at Scottsdale Civic Center on Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; "Jingle Hike to Santa" at Pinnacle Peak Park on Dec. 9 at 9 or 10 a.m.; and "Parent's Night Out: The Great Elf Escape" at Horizon Community Center on Dec. 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. (City of Scottsdale)
  2. Scottsdale resident Edward Mallof has released a children's book titled "Edward Felt Awkward." Mallof loosely based the book on his own childhood experiences with awkwardness and shyness. The rhyming story, which can be purchased on Amazon, "emphasizes the importance of perseverance and self-confidence" as children develop and navigate their own experiences. Mallof hopes that the book will "inspire children to believe in themselves and embrace their unique qualities." Congrats, Edward! (Issuewire.com)
  3. Wondering what will become of the former CrackJax site in north Scottsdale? George Kurtz, CEO of CrowdStrike, has a $1 billion redevelopment planned for the site that includes a five-star hotel, apartments, condominiums, "workforce housing," office space, retail space, and plans for five restaurants. A two-acre "central park" public open space is also planned, and a "green parking garage" with "vegetation and open space on the roof" is part of the vision. The application for this Parque project has been submitted to the city, but public hearings have not yet been scheduled. (The Arizona Republic)
