  1. The Scottsdale Police Department is reminding the public of common scams and asking residents to share the information with everyone they know. For one common scam, callers will pose as SPD employees and use phone software to make it appear as though the phone call is coming from SPD. The scammer often tells the victim that they have a warrant and will be arrested if they do not pay over the phone via money order, gift card, or credit card. The other common scam occurs when callers say that a loved one has been kidnapped, often using AI technology to clone the loved one's voice, and demand payment over the phone. This scam can be very frightening, but SPD encourages victims to hang up the phone and call the loved one directly to confirm they are safe. Any attempted scam calls should be reported to the SPD non-emergency phone number at 480-312-5000. (Scottsdale Police Department via Facebook)
  2. Toothio, a Scottsdale-based startup offering an "on-demand dental industry staffing platform," has raised $4 million to expand. The seed funding round was led by Craft Ventures, which is based out of San Francisco, with participation from Rho Capital Partners, Burst Capital, Moving Capital, and Revere Partners. 3. DraftKings Inc. has shared the progress of The DraftKings Sportsbook, which is currently under construction at TPC Scottsdale. The "brick-and-mortar sportsbook" is expected to open this fall. Meanwhile, Wynn Resorts has interestingly and abruptly closed WynnBET in Arizona. You can find more information about The DraftKings Sportsbook and check out renderings of the project here. 4. In nearby news, the Scottsdale Plaza Resort & Villas at 7200 N. Scottsdale Road in Paradise Valley will be renovated and expanded. Construction is expected to start "as soon as possible," with the planned addition of three new restaurants, 64 new hotel rooms, and a new spa and cafe building. (The Arizona Republic)
