Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. Looking for a "wet and wild" way to celebrate the end of summer? Check out Slide the Rails at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park this Saturday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $10 per guest and includes unlimited train and carousel rides, as well as access to inflatable water slides, obstacle courses, and a foam pit. Wristbands can be purchased at the ticket office between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. or onsite the day of the event. Children two and younger are free with a paying adult. (McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park)
  2. Blood donations are needed to address an emergency blood shortage due to a "significant decrease in summer donations." Consider donating blood at an upcoming blood drive to help save lives. Head to Scottsdale City Hall parking lot, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. on Aug. 8 and Nov. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to donate. You can also donate at Scottsdale's North Corporation Yard, 9191 E. San Salvador on Aug. 15 and Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. (City of Scottsdale)
  3. The smell of dead fish was in the air last Friday. After the monsoon storms, "hundreds if not thousands" of dead fish took over the water at El Dorado Park Pond and near Continental Golf Course. The "sediment-filled water" from the storms makes it challenging for the fish to breathe, and the hot temperature of the water makes it difficult for the lake "to hold sufficient oxygen." In fact, the Arizona Game and Fish "had documented that the oxygen levels [in the pond] were zero." (Arizona's Family)

Tomorrow in Scottsdale:

Thursday, August 3

  • Children's Music Concert at Mustang Library. "Jump, clap and groove along with Grammy Award Nominee Papa Hugs during this upbeat and interactive performance!" (10:30 AM - 11:30 AM)
  • Western Movie Matinees: "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. Purchase tickets online. (2:00 PM)
  • ArtWalk at Old Town Arts District (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM)

From my notebook:

You're all caught up for today! See you all tomorrow for your next update.
