ALISO VIEJO, CA — Independence Day is fast approaching so it's time to find out where you can celebrate in and around Aliso Viejo. Area events include fireworks, festivals and other Fourth of July fun.

To help you fit it all in on your 4th of July calendar, Patch has put together a guide to what’s going on in Aliso Viejo and the surrounding areas.

LAGUNA BEACH:

Large crowds are anticipated for the July 4th holiday and the City is requesting the public’s cooperation to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors.

Areas of Heisler Park, including the Lawn Bowling Green and Monument Point area will be closed all day on Thursday, July 4th. Additionally, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the area of Heisler Park from Myrtle Street to the Rockpile Beach stairs at Jasmine Street will be closed to the public to allow for drone flyover. NEWPORT BEACH:

The community has several parades and activities planned throughout the day.

The Newport Peninsula Bike Parade and Community Festival starts at 9 a.m. at 36th Street Park and travels down Balboa Boulevard to Channel Place Park. The festival will include carnival games, jump houses, crafts and food until 11:30 a.m. Admission is free.

The Old Glory Boat Parade starts at 1 p.m. in Newport Harbor at the east end of Lido Isle. The annual parade is hosted by the American Legion Yacht Club and American Legion Post 291, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. More information.

Residents can see fireworks at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort at 9 p.m. Newport Beach residents can walk in for free with photo ID.

DANA POINT:

The City of Dana Point will host its annual fireworks show at 9 p.m. near Doheny State Beach. Popular viewing spots include Pines Park, Heritage Park, Lantern Bay Park, Baby Beach, Doheny State Beach and more. The Harbor Shuttle will also provide transportation to residents throughout the day. More information.

LAGUNA NIGUEL:

The Laguna Niguel Family YMCA hosts its annual 45th Run in the Parks with a 5K and kids race, according to organizers. The City of Laguna Niguel will also host a free pool party from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Laguna Niguel Aquatics Center.

There will also be a 5:30 p.m. flyover of the city, and a fireworks show that starts at 9 p.m. over the lake at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. More information.

LAKE FOREST:

Lake Forest community members will celebrate a "Family, Fun, and Freedom" parade starting at 9:30 a.m. at Ridge Route and Toledo Way. The parade will follow Toledo Way, turn right on Lake Forest Drive, then turn right onto Serrano Road and end at Ridge Route, organizers said. More information.

LAGUNA HILLS:

The city's Fourth of July Celebration includes festivities at the Laguna Hills Community Center & Sports Complex. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., community members can enjoy live music, carnival rides and activities and food trucks.

The event is free to attend, and food and drinks will be available for purchase and the carnival rides are $2 each. At 6 p.m., the band Identity Theft will perform. The fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m.

MISSION VIEJO:

The City of Mission Viejo will host the July 4th Street Faire and Fireworks Spectacular between Marguerite and Melinda starting at noon. The event features live entertainment, rides, food trucks and games. Admission is free and fireworks start at 9 p.m. More information.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA:

The SAMLARC Star Spangled Spectacular is a cherished community tradition that celebrates Independence Day in our exceptional community. From the morning Bike & Trike Parade to a capella performances of patriotic music, this event brings more than 20,000 people to the Lago Santa Margarita and Beach Club.

The signature feature of the evening is a close-up fireworks display over the Lago Santa Margarita as the community pays tribute to our country’s freedom.

This year, SAMLARC invites you to celebrate the American Spirit with a special, 2-Day Star Spangled Spectacular! Independence Day festivities will be held on both July 4th and July 5th, with special activities at the Beach Club Lagoon and Lakeshore on both days and a special fireworks display exclusively on July 5th at 9 p.m. More information.

SAN CLEMENTE:

The city will debut the new Stars, Stripes 'N Slides event at Avenida Rosa and Avenida Victoria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attending residents will enjoy entertainment and activities, with wristbands running from $7 to $10.

The Condor Squadron association will conduct a flyover at about 6 p.m. coming from Newport Beach.

The fireworks show will launch at 9 p.m. from the San Clemente Pier.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO:

The City of San Juan Capistrano will host a carnival at Marco Forster Intermediate School starting at 2 p.m. There will be rides, games, contests, food and more. Rides require tickets to be purchased, the city said. Attendees can watch fireworks at 9 p.m.

HUNTINGTON BEACH:

The city's Surf City Run 5K kicks off at 7 a.m. on July 4, and residents can register online here. The city will also host the traditional Main Street Parade, which kicks off at 10 a.m. at 9th and Pacific Coast Highway before traveling up Main Street and finishing at Clay Avenue.

Residents will enjoy live entertainment at Pier Plaza starting at noon and a 9 p.m. fireworks show over the water. The Condor Squadron Association will do a flyover at around 5:30 p.m., heading toward Newport Beach.
