Top Wind Gusts In Aliso Viejo

Overnight, the winds were howling in parts of Orange County. Here is how gusty it got.

ALISO VIEJO, CA — Over the past 48 hours, winds have gusted significantly across parts of Orange County and southern California. Overnight, Santa Ana dry desert winds gusted through the Santa Ana mountains at upwards of 56 miles per hour according to the National Weather Service. The extreme windy and dry conditions were expected to continue through Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 5 p.m.

Though the air has been calmer in northern Orange County, the inland and southern portions of the county saw wind gusts at over 69 miles per hour as of 10:30 Tuesday morning.

In Aliso Viejo, just before noon, winds were blowing at 13 miles per hour and gusting at up to 24 miles per hour.

According to the Laguna Beach Police Department, and Orange County Fire Authority, an "elevated sense of preparedness is imperative" during a Red Flag wind event. Blowing dust and debris could make driving difficult in mountain areas, and the worst of the winds were on the coastal mountain slopes and inland valleys below passes and canyons, the NWS said.

"Winds of 20-30 miles per hour with gusts of 50 miles per hour are possible," The National Weather Service said. Wind speeds were tracked in the Orange County mountain areas overnight and here are the totals for how windy it got:

As of 10:30 a.m., the mountains and foothills saw wind gusts of 65 miles per hour on Santiago Peak at 7:30 a.m., 5700 ft.

Gusts of 77 miles per hour 6 miles northeast Mission Viejo, 1725 ft. at just after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Inland Orange County areas of 7 miles north, northeast of Lake Forest saw sustained gusts of 35 miles per hour at 4:30 a.m.

Winds were also gusting in Tustin at 41 miles per hour, and at Bell Canyon at 37 miles per hour.

On the coast, winds in Laguna Beach were gusting at 36 miles per hour, at 6:30 a.m.
