VALLEJO, CA — Firefighters from at least four cities worked to gain control of a three-alarm commercial building fire Thursday in Vallejo

The blaze broke out in a building near Broadway and Sharon Street. At 5:45 p.m., the structure was reportedly heavily involved in fire and flames were threatening multiple other structures, Vallejo fire officials said.

"This is a large commercial fire with heavy smoke in the area," Vallejo firefighters said in a Twitter post at 5:53 p.m. Thursday. "Drivers avoid the area of Broadway between Sereno and Tuolumne, and Sonoma between Yolano and Iffland."

A Vallejo fire spokesperson said the commercial building likely houses a large number of vehicles.

Firefighters from American Canyon, Benicia and Fairfield assisted Vallejo firefighters.

A lumber yard is located west of the fire location and a mobile home park is one block north, so firefighters took preventative measures so the flames would not spread.

As of 7 p.m., the fire was under control, officials said.

"There will be continued smoke from the scene as crews locate and extinguish spot fires within the property," Vallejo fire officials said.
