Unite with Silicon Valley’s Finest to Honor the Heroes of 9/11
The Veterans Memorial & Support Foundation will host a tribute to Remember and Honor 9/11 Survivors, Victims and Heroes on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 8AM – 9:30 AM, at The Flame of Liberty Memorial, 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA. September 11, 2001, began as an ordinary, late-summer day. As the sun rose, fair weather and blue skies prevailed over much of the country and thousands of commercial airliners prepared for flight. But, in less than two hours' time, this seemingly routine day was transformed when 19 terrorists boarded and hijacked four commercial airplanes to attack America.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed when the hijacked planes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon near Washington, DC, and when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside outside of Shanksville, PA.
Two local United Flight 93 heroes attempted to take back cockpit control from terrorists - Todd Beamer and Mark Bingham. Todd and Mark never wore a uniform and never attended any military training. Many would say they were killed in action. Their selfless acts of courage prevented the Capitol Building and all within it from being annihilated. Moreover, thanks to their quick efforts, our government escaped harm at a crucial time when it was critical to act against terrorism.
Americans have demonstrated on numerous occasions that they know how to RISE AGAIN, STAND UNITED, STAND STRONG. 9/11 was no exception. Today is proof positive that America knows how to RISE. A new World Trade Center adorns the footprint of the former Twin Towers and beautiful memorials commemorate the lives lost at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the crash site in Shanksville Pennsylvania. We commemorate the lives of Mark Bingham and Todd Beamer locally at our own Flame of Liberty Memorial located at the Los Gatos Civic Center.
