SAN JOSE, CA — A San Jose police officer faces felony and misdemeanor charges after prosecutors allege he assaulted his now-pregnant girlfriend on multiple occasions, held her against her will, and shot his duty weapon inside the home.

According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, Timothy Hackney, 31, of Morgan Hill, is on administrative leave at the San Jose Police Department and was served with a gun violence restraining order.

The DA's office alleges Hackney committed a string of domestic violence attacks against his girlfriend, beginning more than a year ago. In one incident, prosecutors allege Hackney fired a bullet through the ceiling while their young child was inside the home.

Another alleged incident happened during a trip last year, where prosecutors accuse Hackney of slapping the phone out of his girlfriend's hand when she threatened to call police. Prosecutors said she managed to escape to a nearby restaurant where she called 911, but hung up before speaking with police.

In another incident in June, Hackney is accused of forcibly carrying his girlfriend to their bedroom to prevent her from leaving the house, covering her mouth and nose, and throwing her phone to prevent her from calling the police.

"Domestic violence is a terrible, destructive crime and all perpetrators must be held accountable — badge or no badge," District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement.

Hackney was arraigned this week on felony and misdemeanor charges alleging false imprisonment, improperly firing his duty weapon and multiple assaults. Prosecutors said he will face jail time if convicted.
