"Despite campaigns and initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic waste, it is estimated that 8 million pieces of plastic still enter our oceans each day," he said. "The Beach Preservation Commission is adding an additional beach cleanup event this year, after the July 4 holiday, to ensure we pick up after a busy weekend at our beaches. The cleanup is a great way to not only enjoy our beaches and creeks, but also to do our part to keep them beautiful by removing waste from the environment."

Volunteers need to sign a waiver form to participate. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own work gloves and reusable water bottles. The city will provide trash grabbers, disposable gloves and trash bags.
