LOS ANGELES, CA -- A storm out of the gulf of Alaska struck the Southland Tuesday, bringing what is expected to be the first of three days of rain this week.

The top rainfall area in Los Angeles County through 7 p.m. was Opids Camp in the San Gabriel Mountains, where 0.73 of an inch fell.

Rain is forecast to resume Wednesday, generated by the storm's second pulse, National Weather Service meteorologist Robbie Munroe said.

Thursday will be dry, but a second weather system is expected to produce rainfall in Los Angeles County Saturday, the NWS said. That system could generate between a quarter-inch and a half-inch of rain, Munroe said.

This week's weather could trigger minor mud and debris flows down slopes denuded in wildfires, according to the NWS. The reason only minor flows are being forecast is that there isn't all that much moisture in the atmosphere, Munroe said.

Temperatures Tuesday reached 67 in downtown Los Angeles and Pomona; 66 at Los Angeles International Airport, Long Beach Airport and Hawthorne; 65 at UCLA, Santa Monica Airport and Redondo Beach; 64 in Torrance; 62 in Van Nuys and Lancaster; and 61 in Woodland Hills, Chatsworth and Northridge.

Light rain fell in various spots in Orange County, where highs reached 69 in Anaheim; 68 in Santa Ana; 67 in Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Yorba Linda and at John Wayne Airport and Fullerton Airport; and 66 in Dana Point and Lake Forest.

Showers are forecast Wednesday in Orange County, followed by rain on Saturday.
