Warm Spell In Store For Westwood-Century City
A warm spell is brought record heat to Los Angeles County with elevated temperatures expected until Friday in Westwood-Century City.
LOS ANGELES, CA — The Southland is experiencing a brief warm spell this week, with at least two areas recording record highs Wednesday and temperatures expected to hit the low 80s Thursday.
Wednesday's high of 86 in Woodland Hills broke the old record of 85 set in 2013, according to the National Weather Service. The mountain spot of Sandberg in northwestern Los Angeles County hit 70 degrees, breaking the record of 67 also set in 2013.
Forecasters say an upper-level ridge of high pressure and weak offshore flow ushered in the higher temps, which are expected to linger until Friday.

Stronger offshore winds also are expected Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, when gusts between 25 and 35 mph will be likely in the wind-prone mountain and valley areas of Los Angeles. The winds, along with extremely low humidity, are expected to cause increased fire danger in the Southland.
"Due to the persistent low humidities and periods of dry offshore flow, elevated fire weather concerns can be expected over much of Southwest California through Saturday," forecasters said Wednesday.

Cooler temps are expected for the New Year's weekend, after which the upper ridge will weaken early next week for a cooling trend with increasing clouds.
