Wind Gusts Buffet Westwood-Century City Area

A wind advisory is in effect for the Westwood-Century City area.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Gusty winds will buffet Southern California Monday, including much of L.A. County, forecasters said.

A wind advisory signifying windspeeds or gusts of 35 miles per hour or more will be in effect until noon Tuesday in the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains and the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. Most of these advisories went into effect early Monday morning but the one in the San Gabriel Valley will take effect only at 1 Monday afternoon. Strong winds are also expected in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

The weather service forecast north winds of 20 to 35 mph accompanied by 50-mph gusts in both the San Gabriels and Santa Monicas and winds of 15-30 mph with 35-40-mph gusts in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.

"Gusty winds will make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles," warned an NWS statement. "When driving, use extra caution. Be prepared for sudden gusty crosswinds," it advised, adding roadways that might prove challenging to negotiate include Interstate 5, the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, the 101, 118, 126, 170, 210, and 405 freeways and, in the Santa Monicas, Kanan, Malibu Canyon, Topanga, and Decker Canyon Roads.

Sunny skies were forecast in L.A. County Monday along with highs of 52 degrees on Mount Wilson; 60 in Lancaster; 61 in Palmdale; 62 in Avalon; 64 in Saugus; 67 in Burbank and at LAX; 69 in Pasadena, Long Beach and Downtown L.A.; and 70 in Woodland Hills. Temperatures will be higher through Saturday, when they'll begin to decline, with Sunday's temperatures being roughly the same as Monday's.

The NWS forecast sunny weather in Orange County Monday and highs of 62 in San Clemente; 64 in Newport Beach; 65 in Laguna Beach; 67 in Mission Viejo; 69 in Irvine and Yorba Linda; and 71 in Fullerton and Anaheim. Temperatures will go up by several degrees Tuesday -- by up to 10 degrees in some communities -- then decline by a few degrees, staying mainly in the mid 60s and low 70s through Sunday.
