Creek Fire Threatens Structures As 595 Acres Burns

SUNOL, CA —The Creek Fire broke out at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon in the hills east of Fremont and Milpitas, at Welch Creek and Calaveras roads in Sunol. It has grown to 595 acres, is 5 percent contained and, according to a 6:40 a.m. Saturday incident report by Cal Fire, continues to threaten structures. Cal Fire did not elaborate on the type of structures threatened or how many are potentially in the path of flames.

No injuries have been reported. The fire is being fought by the Alameda County Fire Department.

According to Cal Fire's status summary, "Structures are threatened and Firefighters continue to work to implement containment lines. In unified command with East Bay Regional Park District."

Firefighters are catching a break from the weather with the marine layer in, a temperature around 56 degrees and winds under 5 MPH at 7:09 a.m.

Friday evening there were reports that smoke was drifting into the Tri-Valley.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is the third major fire in the East Bay on Friday. A blaze that started on Altamont Pass Thursday night was contained Friday morning after burning 500 acres.

Forward progress has been halted in the Point Fire in Contra Costa County which forced evacuations in Concord and Bay Point.
