  1. Dr. Kimberly Powers is a Marina HS math teacher who went through a childhood with a mother who “had bipolar disorder, but she never got the help she needed . . . (and) committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in 1973.” We learned Wednesday that Powers “published her first book, Jumping Is Not Genetic.” She wants to help erase the stigma of mental illness. (Reason for Wellness)
  2. The PD arrested a male juvenile on Tuesday “after an attempted armed carjacking of a delivery driver in Huntington Beach led to an extensive search near Goldenwest Plaza.” Two suspects approached the DoorDash delivery driver “while in his vehicle near the intersection of Goldenwest Street and Edinger Avenue.” One of them had a gun. The driver resisted and the suspects fled. One is now under arrest, a handgun was recovered, and the other suspect is still in the wind. (Daily Pilot)
  3. “The mosque’s God had disrespected his God,” said a man suspected of vandalizing the Al Noor Foundation Mosque in the 14500 block of Goldenwest Street. An employee witnessed the man “try to break one of the mosque’s windows. (He) is also accused of hitting the mosque’s front door with a gallon-sized paint can and then throwing paint onto one of the windows.” (L.A. Blade)
  4. Were you at the beach on Saturday? Did you see the Best Corgi Butt Contest or the Doggie Yoga? Corgi Beach Day was a success and everyone in attendance loved the “the stubby-legged breed.” If you missed this one, mark your calendar for October, when there’ll be a second beach day devoted to Corgi cuteness. (ABC)
  5. Conversely, if you ran across Batman, Loki, or an Anime character over the weekend, they were likely going to the Anaheim Convention Center for WonderCon. It is considered “Comic-Con's smaller, low-key version.” In addition to fans, there were also educators and their students exploring the art of story-telling. (ABC)
