  1. A shoutout to M/SgtMaj Sean Laghaei! The 17-year-old HBHS senior is a “member of the Southeast County Young Marines meeting in Midway City, California.” He has been named the “top Young Marine in Division 6 which includes eight states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.” Well done! (OC Breeze)
  2. The Center for Biological Diversity released a notice on Tuesday that it warned DCOR, LLC "today that the company failed to comply with a California law requiring a Coastal Development Permit for its repair of an offshore oil pipeline that leaked in December." “This is an old, dangerously leaky pipeline, and it’s appalling that repair work proceeded without a key permit or crucial steps to prevent future disasters,” the organization explains. “The Center’s letter warns DCOR that the company must now obtain an “after-the-fact” permit from the Coastal Commission to avoid legal liability.” (Center for Biological Diversity)
  3. “Impaired driving is . . . a choice. If you’ve been drinking, or have taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places,” says the HBPD. Be prepared to see more DUI patrols on weekends this month. “Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.” (HB News)
  4. On the heels of this announcement came Monday’s warning that “April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month!” The HBPD wants you to remember that “using a handheld cell phone while driving is illegal in California.” Patrol officers will “actively look for drivers throughout the month who are in violation of the state's hands-free cell phone law.” (@HBPoliceDept)
  5. Do you know what to do with “leftover household products such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides?” We learned Monday that you should never pour “them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or in some cases, putting them with the trash.” Instead, you have access to a FREE year-round collection center at 17121 Nichols Street-Gate 6. Where should you invest as a Huntington Beach resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Huntington Beach residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
