'Summer Movies In The Park' Series Coming To Lemon Grove

The summer series includes more than 100 movies at dozens of parks across San Diego County.

LEMON GROVE, CA — The Summer Movies in the Park series kicks off Memorial Day weekend in San Diego County.

Presented by the county's Parks and Recreation Department, this year's schedule includes more than 100 movies at dozens of parks across the county, including in Lemon Grove.

The series kicks off Friday with the Academy Award-winning film, "Barbie," at Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego. To celebrate the opening, the event will feature music, crafts, games, bounce houses and other free activities.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and the movie will start at dusk, about 15 minutes after sunset. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for a night under the stars.

This year's schedule includes a variety of films, from modern-day classics such as "Wonka" and "The Goonies," to cartoon heroes and villains such as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" and "Kung Fu Panda 4."

The lineup includes two movies at Berry Street Park in Lemon Grove. "Migration" is scheduled July 2 and "Kung Fu Panda 4" is slated Aug. 9.

Movies, dates and locations are subject to change, according to the county. Events begin as early as 6 p.m. though actual start times are 15 minutes after sunset.
