LONG BEACH, CA – Chloe, a severely abused puppy left near death in Long Beach, is ready to find her forever home. Fix Long Beach Pets and Animals, the non-profit organization taking care of Chloe, is hosting a meet and greet with the puppy Saturday, March 30 at Pet Food Express from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Despite the odds [...], Chloe persevered, and has been making a recovery with her foster," the Fix Long Beach Pets and Animals website said. "Due to her tenacious spirit, she has healed and made it to the point where she can be adopted into her fur-ever home!"

Chloe, a Maltipoo-terrier mix who is now about a year old, was found in December 2018 covered in urine and tied up in a trash bag with rotting food in a dumpster in downtown Long Beach.

"It turned out that she has a skull fracture (and) she probably has some broken ribs," Fix Long Beach Pets and Animals board member Diana Kliche told CBS2. "They were worried that her neck was broken, and her leg was snapped in half."

Kliche said it was one of the worst cases of animal abuse she had ever seen.

When rescuers first saw the pup, the entire side of her head was covered in bruises, where someone had beaten her. The dog was treated at Long Beach Amimal Emergency Hospital, where a veterinarian said she was responding to treatment but had a long road to recovery.

"I can't remember something this horrific," Frank Groff, a spokesman for JustFoodForDogs, told City News Service. "She's doing much, much better and she's responding to therapy."

Adoption applications are available now through April 6 on the Fix Long Beach Pets and Animals website. Pet Food Express is located at 4220 Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach.
