30-Foot Flames Burn Down Griffith Park Structure: LAFD

A garbage fire led to destruction in Griffith Park overnight Thursday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — At least one structure in a storage and maintenance facility in Griffith Park burned down overnight Thursday after garbage caught on fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire broke out in a maintenance facility near Griffith Park & Southern Railroad on Crystal Springs Drive, adjacent to the 5 Freeway. Firefighters arrived to find 30-foot flames extending into nearby trees, according to firefighters.

"Though accessing the area proved challenging, crews were able to force entry and achieve complete extinguishment in just over an hour. Loss of the involved structure(s) and any storage therein appeared to be complete," the LAFD said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
