A powerful rainstorm hit southern California Tuesday, leaving a trail of damage in what had been a drought-stricken area.

CALIFORNIA — California residents dealt with flash flooding, mudslides, and destruction after a powerful storm slammed the area with up to 11 inches of rain in some parts of the state.

A swollen Los Angeles River engulfed two cars and sent the twisted wreck of a third car floating straight into a bridge pillar Tuesday, according to an Associated Press report.

Some roads were washed out, while others were blocked due to mudslides. Toppled trees blocked other roadways.

Residents who at one time were given evacuation orders on account of wildfires were now finding themselves prepared for another evacuation order due to flash flooding.
