Just a few doors down from the trendy Tao and Beauty and Essex in Hollywoodlies Ka’teen, a lovely intimate restaurant housed in a tropical garden.

Chef Wes Avila’s menu incorporates Yucatan flavors paired perfectly with colorful tasty cocktails. The dinner menu focuses heavily on seafood and includes hamachi, scallop, shrimp and tuna ceviche, striped bass ceviche, prawn aguachile, guacamole, sweet shrimp tacos, a mushroom birria, whole raosted cauliflower with pineapple, fish served whole with salsa verde and pickled fresno chiles, heritage pork in banana leaf, braised lamb shank, a carne asada ribeye and short ribs with corn hyarache and queso fresco. Sides include blistered chiles with citrus soy dressing, yucca with jalapeno aioli, potatoes with umeboshi aioli and shelling beans with queso fresco.

We opted for the brunch to enjoy the beautiful garden in daylight. Diners can indulge with a spicy Bloody Mary, Paloma, white mezcal Negroni or a house margarita to start the meal. Dishes include avocado toast with pretty flowering herbs and an egg, a coconut sorrel chia see pudding, flan custard pancakes, horchata French Toast with pineapple, a huge breakfast burrito with birria beef and eggs, chilaquiles with an egg and avocado, short ribs in tortillas with avocado and black bean sauce or our favorite, the huevos rancheros with queso oazaca, avocado and queso fresco.
