LOS ANGELES — A California mom is stirring up debate online after she left her boyfriend and baby in economy seating to fly business class during an 11-hour flight from Paris to Los Angeles.

“Am I a horrible person for flying business class while my baby and boyfriend flew economy?” Ellis Cochlin asked at the beginning of the TikTok video chronicling the flight, which was posted last week and has been viewed more than 400,000 times.

It was Cochlin’s first time flying with another adult to assist with her daughter, Prim, she explained.

“The thought of having a baby-free flight was like music to my ears,” she said. “It was just so refreshing to relax and have a child-free flight.”

Reactions to Cochlin’s decision varied.

“I think you both should of been there for each other and shared the responsibility,” one commenter said, while another noted that, “Mammas are with their baby’s 24/7, she was with her other parent completely safe and happy. You deserve a break so why not.”

“My whole family told me I was a horrible person — as a joke, obviously — for being in business while Prim and Rob were in economy, but I said, ‘As if you wouldn’t do the same,’” Cochlin said.
