Whale Crashes Onto Beach | Ex-Employee Plows Into Restaurant |Wildfire

LOS ANGELES, CA — As the weekend wraps, we've rounded up some of the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

Beachgoers were shocked to see a 40-foot whale washed ashore onto the beach Saturday evening. The fin whale was very sick and in distress, and eventually died, according to the LA County Fire Department. Crews had to cordon off the area to relocate the whale carcass.

Nearby in Torrance, police say a man stabbed his mother, then jumped to his death off the fifth floor of a parking building at El Camino College. The woman was hospitalized in critical condition.

In happier news, LA Mayor Karen Bass was in Paris Sunday to receive the official Olympic flag, beginning the four-year countdown until LA hosts the 2028 Olympics. Tom Cruise ziplined from the top of the Stade de France, and carried the flag out on motorcycle to begin its journey to LA.
