Marin's Piatti Restaurant Debuts Makeover & New Menu

The Mill Valley landmark aims to be your "neighborhood Italian joint," with new, to-go counter selling pasta, sauces and dipping oils.

MILL VALLEY, CA — Piatti Mill Valley, an Italian dining staple since the 1980s in Marin County, has unveiled its refurbished interior, new menu and wine list — and a retail spot that sells house-made pasta, sauces and gourmet oils.

The refresh adds a casual, communal-seating vibe, with a fireplace-lounge area, plus a to-go/retail counter and upgrades to its pasta and wine menu-options, according to management.

“We think the redesign will not only appeal to our longtime supporters, but will also attract a fun, new generation of Piatti fans,” said president Tim Harmon. “While we still retain some of our traditional feel, we wanted to offer a fresh take on the ‘neighborhood Italian joint’ dining experience, one that we believe restaurant goers will more acutely enjoy.”

The eatery reopened Thursday with its refreshed venue. Piatti Mill Valley, which dates to 1987 and prides itself on its house-made pasta and authentic Italian cuisine, has amped up its menu, wine list and take-home offerings.

The added, to-go counter sells such artisanal house-made products as pasta sauces, fresh pasta, Piatti dipping oils and house wine.

"While many fine restaurants do offer takeout and delivery options for their signature dishes, very few offer patrons the option to actually buy the ingredients for their favorite entrées to prepare them at home (recipes included!)," Piatti officials said.

The revamped wine list focus on classic Italian wines, as well as Italian varietal domestic wines.

Piatti's food menu underwent some changes, as well, operators said, with future input planned from culinary consultant David Zboray, working with Chef de Cuisine Shane Fox.

Specific focus will go to the fresh pasta, made daily in-house, with Campanelle, crimini mushrooms, kale, toasted walnuts and pecorino, plus such fan-fave classics as the roasted mushroom pizza; calamari fritto misto, meatballs al forno, and pan-roasted salmon with artichokes, roasted fennel, potato and Calabrian chili. Desserts include tiramisu, lemon & poppyseed cake and almare gelato.

"This revitalized iteration of the restaurant offers a fresh take on the friendly, neighborhood trattoria," managers said.

The Mill Valley re-design will set the standard going forward for other Piatti restaurants, including California sites in Danville, Santa Clara, La Jolla and Sacramento, officials added.

At 625 Redwood Hwy., Piatti Mill Valley is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Extended hours and lunch service coming soon. Phone-in reservations preferred, with limited availability for walk-ins. Info, menus and more details here. Or follow here on Facebook.
