Will Rogers Bacteria Warning Lifted As 14 Other LA County Beaches Unsafe For Swimming

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — High bacteria levels prompted public health officials this week to warn against getting in the water at 14 Los Angeles County beaches as they lifted an earlier bacteria warning at Will Rogers State Beach.

The LA County Department of Public Health collects samples weekly from various sites year-round to test and monitor bacteria levels and issues warnings when levels exceed health standards.

This week, officials warned that swimming in the water at the following beaches may cause illness:

• Topanga Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the lagoon
• Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey
• Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public restrooms
• Santa Monica pier, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier
• Trancas Creek at Zuma Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek
• Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro
• Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach
• Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove
• Solstice Creek at Dan Blocker County Beach
• Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public access steps
• Sweetwater Canyon storm drain at Carbon Canyon Beach
• Castlerock storm drain at Topanga County Beach
• Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove, 100 yards up and down the coast from the Paradise Cove pier
• Las Flores Creek at Las Flores State Beach

The warnings come as hordes of people are expected to head to the beach this week as temperatures in the 90s are forecasted in many parts of Los Angeles County

Meantime, earlier warnings were lifted at Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State beach (near Will Rogers Tower 18) and Malibu Pier. The health department said recent samples at those locations identified water quality levels within state standards.
