📰 Here are the top stories today in Palm Springs:

  1. On Tuesday morning, just after 9 a.m., a car crash injured two people and ignited a brush fire. The incident occurred “on northbound Highway 62, north of Interstate 10,” which is in unincorporated Palm Springs. The injured parties were transported to the hospital. Firefighters contained the blaze by 11 a.m.; however, three acres burned. (Patch)
  2. First responders headed to the Tahquitz Canyon trail on Tuesday to assist an injured hiker. Agua Caliente Tribal Rangers participated in the rescue of the woman who had sustained a head injury. (KESQ)
  3. What are the odds of making Measure J permanent? Scheduled to sunset in 2037, it adds a one cent tax on every purchase — except for groceries and prescriptions. It added up to $170 million and funded several projects in the area. Councilmember Lisa Middleton wants to double down on the tax, putting it on the ballot again, but this time making it permanent. (The Palm Springs Post)
  4. Is N. Indian Canyon Drive closed too often? Local business owners think so because closures affect their businesses. Now, a survey about a bridge is offering hope, but locals believe that things are moving too slowly. “The proposed bridge would be designed with arch culverts that allow sand to circulate and would elevate vehicles above flood zones.” (KESQ)
  5. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway declared every day in July a military day. What does this mean? All United States military personnel with identification get free admission. Organizers extend this offer to “spouses of deployed military members, as well as military widows and widowers.” And, if you bring friends, they get 25 percent off admission.
