ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, CA — The former Promenade Ice Chalet will reopen as Promenade on the Peninsula in a partnership with the LA Kings and American Sports Entertainment Company.

“For close to 40 years, this facility was a tremendous community cornerstone, and we are excited to work with our partners to re-engage families here and return to the ice,” ASEC President Brad Berman said in a statement. “We believe LA Kings Ice at Promenade on the Peninsula will be a long-term, sustainable ice and entertainment center.”

“The LA Kings are thrilled to work with our partners Promenade on the Peninsula and ASEC," Kings President and Hockey Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille said in a statement. "We are committed to inspiring future generations of athletes. Today’s announcement and next month’s re-opening are critical steps to continuing and expanding upon our mission.”

Located within the popular Promenade on the Peninsula located on the northern side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, the rink closed September 16, 2020, due to the area’s widespread COVID-19 lockdown. The indoor rink, opened by the shopping center in 1981, has served as an iconic area location for both figure skating and hockey for 40 years.

ASEC and the Kings signed the lease in August. Now, the project is in the renovation stage with plans to reopen next month. The primary focus for the renovations includes technology system upgrades and interior and exterior branding. The other plans are to repair the cold floor pipe system, leveling for the ice rink subfloor, repair of the dasher board system, add a new scoreboard and bring in new rental skates. The new rink will have upgraded lighting, sound equipment and high-speed public internet access.
