Average Rent In San Diego Surpasses San Francisco For The First Time

SAN DIEGO, CA — Rent prices continue to rise in San Diego, with America's Finest City now surpassing San Francisco, according to a new report.

For the first time ever, San Diego topped San Francisco as the third-most expensive market in the U.S., with rents averaging $3,175 and $3,168, respectively, according to Zillow's rent report for June.

"This was the first month on record in which typical rents in San Diego exceeded those in San Francisco," the report states. "On the eve of the pandemic, in February 2020, San Francisco rents were 29 percent higher than those in San Diego."

Other California cities also continue to rank among the priciest in the country. In fact, the most expensive rental market is San Jose, where renters pay an average of $3,411 per month, according to the report. Renters in New York City pay an average of $3,405 per month, making it the second most expensive rental market in the nation.
