SAN DIEGO, CA — Chuck E. Cheese is celebrating the grand reopening of a newly remodeled San Diego area store.

The National City location recently underwent renovations, including the addition of new arcade games and an interactive dance floor. The company will celebrate the completed remodel with a grand reopening event Thursday at the store located at 1143 Highland Ave.

"We would love for families to experience all that is new at the National City Chuck E. Cheese," Chuck E. Cheese spokesperson Alejandra Brady told Patch.

The National City store, which first opened in 1982, is now a modernized, rebranded version of the iconic family entertainment center.

The 15,000-square-foot store features new arcade, sports and kid-focused games, as well as a new interactive dance floor and large format video wall and screens with audio connected throughout the venue. The dance floor is where Chuck E. Cheese performs "The Chuck E. Live! Show" every hour and the birthday show for birthday parties.

The remodel began mid-November and was completed a month later. The location stayed open during the renovations.

"Chuck E. Cheese prides itself in being able to perform the renovations overnight so there is minimal impact to the kids and families that visit every day, so the location remained open during renovations," Brady said.

The children's arcade and pizza restaurant chain has been updating its look at all of its locations.

Chuck E. Cheese reinvested in its existing infrastructure, with 75 percent of the chain's locations already remodeled, Brady said. The company plans to complete renovations for its remaining stores by the end of 2024. That's more than a $300 million capital expenditure investment in renovations to date, she noted.

Chuck E. Cheese has more than 570 locations across the globe, including eight locations in San Diego County.

"As the only family entertainment center brand that has a mainstay in the cultural zeitgeist of American pop culture over the last four decades, Chuck E. Cheese and its constant evolution has allowed it to be a part of billions of family memories," Brady said. "Even as technology, the trends and likes of kids and families and competition have changed at a faster pace than ever before, Chuck E. Cheese continues to be the place for families with little ones to have a joyful and wholesome birthday, graduation or everyday celebration."

Chuck. E. Cheese will celebrate the grand reopening of the National City location with a "purple carpet premiere" from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. The event will include free cake, raffle prizes, and appearances from Chuck E. Cheese and friends. The first 25 families in line will receive one hour of free game play.
