Data Breach At ALDI In San Diego Area May Have Compromised Customer Credit Cards

VISTA, CA — Popular grocery chain ALDI is warning customers of a data breach affecting shoppers at five stores, including three in Southern California.

In a notice posted on ALDI's website, officials said card skimming devices placed by a third party were found at checkout terminals at the following California stores:

• 1750 University Drive, Vista, between Nov. 15 and Nov. 17;
• 28230 Clinton Keith Road, Murrieta, between Nov. 15 and Nov. 16;
• 8351 La Palma Ave., Buena Park, on Nov. 22.

Two stores in New Jersey were also affected by the breach, the company said.

According to the notice, the breach may have compromised the credit card information of customers who used their cards at the affected terminals during the specified time frames. Information included cardholder names, card numbers, card expiration dates, card pins and security codes.

After learning about the breach, ALDI officials said the company removed the devices from the stores and took steps to secure payment systems. The issue was also reported to law enforcement and credit card companies.

Customers who believe they may have been affected by the breach should contact their credit card companies.
