SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Chronicle on Monday revealed its top 15 Bay Area restaurants of 2023, and while The City claimed quite a few spots on the list, several eateries around the East Bay, South Bay, Peninsula and Wine Country earned bragging rights, too.

This year's list focused on unique approaches across cuisines and styles, from world-class seafood and taquerias to pizzerias and delis.

"I gravitated toward simplicity, affordability, fierce flavors and personal stories," writes Cesar Hernandez, the Chronicle's associate restaurant critic. "Yet the restaurants I remember most offered something hard to find elsewhere in the Bay Area."

In the South Bay, the Chronicle highlighted San Jose's Egglicious, aptly named for its egg-centric Indian fare like the masala omelet. In the East Bay, Oakland's Mama's Boy got the nod as home to one of the region's best New York-style pizzas, available by the slice or whole.

On the Peninsula, San Mateo's Kajiken earned praise for its brothless aburasoba ramen and house-made noodles, and Millbrae's Han Sang was noted for its top-notch Korean fare, including galbijjim and beef ribs.
