BAY AREA — Thousands more PG&E customers lost power Wednesday compared to earlier in the morning, raising the total number of affected customers in the region to more than 35,000.

PG&E said that as of 8 a.m., 35,551 customers are affected by power outages in the Bay Area, a jump from 29,803, which was the update for 5 a.m.

The utility did not give details what caused the reported increase in power outages in the region.

Most of the newly affected customers are in the North Bay, which has around 18,675 affected. The South Bay, meanwhile, has 7,343 affected customers, according to PG&E.

Power still needs to be restored to 7,952 Peninsula customers, 1,413 in the East Bay and 168 customers in San Francisco.

For those customers whose power was out at 5 a.m., many are in their fourth day without electricity since the brunt of the atmospheric storm hit on Sunday.
