SAN FRANCISCO — An unusual sight left beachgoers shocked Wednesday at Crissy Field, according to reports.

Actors in realistic ape prosthetics were riding horses in the area, filming a commercial for the upcoming film “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and marketing the movie, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The scene startled bicyclists and alarmed dogs, according to SFGate.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is directed by Wes Ball and tells the story of a world where apes are the dominant species and humans live in the shadows. Its U.S. release date is May 10.
