SAN FRANCISCO — Michelin's highly anticipated annual announcement of stars for restaurant excellence in California came Monday night, as 85 establishments were chosen for 2024 including dozens in the Bay Area.

The highest designation is three starts, restaurants that Michelin says serve "Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey." There are six in California, five of which are in the Bay Area.

Restaurants that earn two stars have "Excellent cuisine, worth a detour." Thirteen California restaurants have two stars.

One star restaurants offer "High quality cooking, worth a stop." There are 66 in California.

Bay Area Three Star Restaurants

Three of the three star restaurants are in San Francisco — Atelier Crenn, Quince, and Benu. The remaining two Bay Area establishments are in the Wine Country — The French Laundry in Yountville and Single Thread in Healdsburg.

The remaining California three star restaurant is Addison in San Diego.
