SAN FRANCISCO — An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness has sickened more than 150 people aboard a luxury cruise ship that departed San Francisco Wednesday bound for Hawaii, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the Associated Press, the Queen Victoria, operated by Cunard Cruise Line, began its voyage in Germany on Jan. 9, departed Florida on Jan. 22, and left San Francisco en route to Honolulu on Wednesday. Its final destination is Australia.

The CDC said 129 of the ship's 1,824 passengers became ill, along with 25 of the 967 crew members, with symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting. The outbreak's cause remains unknown.
