SAN FRANCISCO, CA — There are many boats cruising through the San Francisco Bay, but houseboats are quite a bit rarer.

But starting Sunday, observers noticed a large, elegant, wood shingled, two-story home floating slowly through the Bay. Their eyes weren’t deceiving them: it was indeed a houseboat making a two-day journey from Docktown Marina in Richardson Bay in Sausalito, though some sources have listed the destination as San Rafael. Bill Price, the harbormaster at Waldo Point Harbor, told SFGATE he believes the boat will be docked at Commodore Marina near the Richardson Bay Bridge.

The home was the second-to-last houseboat in the Redwood City marina, which once housed more than 100 people, according to SFGATE. In 2015, a Redwood City resident sued, claiming the boats were blocking access to a state waterway. After a drawn-out legal battle, the suit was settled, with the stipulation that the city would remove the houseboats, and compensate the owners for the cost of moving them.

The boat’s owner told The San Francisco Standard that he was not on board during the boat’s towing, and expected the boat to dock Monday night.
