TEMECULA, CA—A longstanding plan to build homes at the corner of De Portola and Butterfield Stage roads in Temecula is slowly moving forward.

On Wednesday night, the Temecula Planning Commission will decide whether to greenlight the project that calls for 164 single-family residential lots on 42.64 acres at the intersection's southwest corner. The project area is within Planning Area 4 of the Paloma Del Sol Specific Plan. Woodside Homes is the project applicant.

On April 21, 2014, Woodside submitted a planning application and tentative tract map to the city for the project.

One of the conditions of approval is the construction of a private recreation center for the project that would include, but not be limited to, "an appropriately sized pool and spa, clubhouse, seating areas, and other active and passive amenities," city documents show.

The project still has many steps ahead, including, among others, a development plan for the private recreation center and a home design review.

Prospective buyers looking for affordable housing will not necessarily find what they're looking for in the planned development. The new homes will target buyers earning above the area median income, according to city documents.

Wednesday night's 6 p.m. Planning Commission meeting takes place at City Hall, 41000 Main Street. See the full meeting agenda here.

During the Wednesday night meeting, commissioners will also review a hotel project proposed for Old Town. Read more: Another Hotel Proposed For Old Town Temecula
