Big Rig Driver Crashes Along I-10 Guardrail, Stalls Indio Traffic

A driver slammed into 100 feet of guardrail Friday morning along eastbound I-10, disrupting traffic through Indio.

INDIO, CA—A big rig driver crashed through over 100 feet of guardrail along eastbound I-10 Friday, causing damage and blocking traffic for miles.

Shortly before 9 a.m., the white Cascadia rig drifted onto the right shoulder for unknown reasons and collided with the guardrail, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch records.

The driver was not injured, however due to resulting vehicle and road damage, emergency responders declared it was "not safe for them to get out of the vehicle."

A tow truck was requested about 15 minutes later.

The incident left debris in multiple lanes and backed up traffic for over four miles, according to CHP estimates.
