Temecula Fatal Crash: Driver Traveling At 'High Rate Of Speed'

One person has died following a rollover crash at Winchester and Margarita roads early Wednesday morning, fire officials confirmed.

TEMECULA, CA — One person was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash overnight in Temecula near the intersection of Winchester and Margarita roads, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Just after 1 a.m., a 2014 Toyota Yaris heading southbound on Winchester Road struck the center median just west of Margarita Road, resulting in the rollover crash, according to Sgt. Joey Sinz. Southwest Station deputies were first to the incident followed by Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters, who pronounced the single occupant dead as a result of the crash.

The driver has not yet been identified, pending notification of next of kin.

"Preliminary findings revealed that the Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed," Sinz said. "The investigation is ongoing, and the role of alcohol and or drugs has not been determined."

The roadway was closed temporarily during an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department to collect evidence and process the scene, and no further information was immediately available.
