Interfaith Humanitarian Awards Presented

The Interfaith Council of Murrieta and Temecula Valley has awarded its first Humanitarian Awards to residents of Murrieta. Cheryl Young received the individual award for her service to various charitable and civic organizations as well as to the City of Murrieta where she led the implementation of the 911 Memorial at the Memorial Park by City Hall.

Darin and Kari Carlson, owners of Great Harvest Bread Company located in Temecula, won the organization’s award for the generous distribution of bread to food pantries and charitable entities working to feed the hungry.

The awards were presented at the organization’s annual Night of Gratitude, always held on the Sunday night before Thanksgiving, in which people of various faiths tell the audience what they are thankful for. The recipients were then recognized by the Murrieta City Council at their meeting on November 20.

The Interfaith Council of Murrieta and Temecula Valley created the awards to recognize one individual and one organization whose service to the community exemplifies the vision and mission of the Interfaith Council. Specifically, the Interfaith Council promotes interfaith

dialogue and cooperation toward ending religiously motivated prejudice and to help create an equitable society. The Interfaith Council acknowledges the God-given dignity and equality of all people, shares respect and compassion for all, and seeks to be a collective spiritual voice for human rights and justice for all.

Non-profit organizations, for-profit companies, governmental entities, and individuals serving in the Murrieta and Temecula areas are eligible to be nominated for the annual awards. Visitors and new members are welcome to attend general meetings of the Interfaith Council held on the second Tuesday of each month from noon to 1:30 pm at Miller-Jones Mortuary, 26855 Jefferson Avenue, Murrieta.
