Officer's Death Mourned At Riverside County Probation Department

Probation Officer Julio Beltran, 34, died Saturday, and published media reports said his passing was due to complications from COVID-19​.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — The Riverside County Probation Department has announced the passing of one of its own.

Probation Officer Julio Beltran, 34, died Saturday, and published media reports said his passing was due to complications from COVID-19.

“We are devastated and heartbroken,” Riverside County Chief Probation Officer Ron Miller II said in a released statement. “We ask that you join us in remembering his commitment and contribution to his community and to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Beltran was a seven-year veteran of the Riverside County Probation Department. He worked with both juvenile and adult clients at assignments with Juvenile Services Division, Southwest Services Division, Special Services Division and supervised an adult caseload in his most recent assignment with the Central Services Division.

Colleagues said Beltran was a vibrant, funny and "endearing person who was dedicated to helping clients in his care make positive changes in their lives."

Others remember him taking extra time to assist colleagues and mentor young probation officers.

"Officer Beltran made many friends in this department and he will be missed," the department said in a released statement.

Beltran is survived by his wife, a son and his parents.

Out of respect for his family, the probation department said additional details about Beltran's passing were not being released.

It is not immediately clear how Beltran contracted the virus and whether any of his coworkers or clients may have been exposed.
